Navigating the Coming Chaos of Unprecedented Transitions

How do you feel about the current unraveling of industrial civilization and the coming transition? Do you long for a place to discuss your feelings, thoughts, and methods of preparation? Do you long to feel less alone as you live with all you know?

Are you preparing for this perfect storm of global crises? Do you even know how to prepare? Will you simply hunker down or will you see the opportunities to create a new life as well?

Humanity is now facing monumental challenges, some of which it has encountered before and many of which are unprecedented. There is little doubt that we have entered the first stages of the collapse of industrial civilization which will ultimately present humanity with an evolutionary threshold — not only daunting survival challenges, but the opportunity to restore life on a dying planet.

The latter requires a larger vision than enhancing the longevity of oneself and one’s loved ones. It compels us to consciously and compassionately re-engage with the earth community by breathing new life and love into every species of animal, plant, and mineral in our world and ourselves. This course explores the psychological and spiritual aspects of the collapse of civilization and the opportunities it offers for the transformation of consciousness. It will help you re-evaluate your life purpose in the light of unprecedented transitions.

I already know I'd like to register into the September 11, 2010 Course

Sacred Demise

This course is taught by the author of Sacred Demise: Walking The Spiritual Path of Industrial Civilization’s Collapse, which will be the textbook for the course. A host of topics will be addressed including:

  • What is collapse and what does it really look like?
  • Paradigm shift — beyond capitalism or political-economic systems
  • What does transition require us to face in the outer and inner worlds?
  • Healing through the dark emotions
  • Who do I want to be in the face of collapse?
  • Living in the present while preparing for a future unraveling
  • Raising the next generation as the “world ends”
  • Mirth-making amid crumbling and chaos
  • Soulsickness and emotional collapse
  • Health and healing after civilization
  • Bringing back the world

Students who complete this course will:

  • Acquire specific emotional tools for navigating the psychological repercussions of transition and their own individual crisis of meaning in a post-industrial world.
  • Be supported in constructing and refining internal structures for navigating transition and preparing for it emotionally.
  • Have the opportunity to collaboratively contemplate a deeper meaning in relation to the coming chaos and discover their place and purpose in it.
  • Be encouraged to explore and deepen their connection with something greater than the personal ego. Regardless of one's spiritual orientation or absence thereof, this course will use personal connections with nature, poetry, art, music, and other expressive catalysts to tap the inner resources of one’s individual humanity — invaluable treasures of internal fortification in a chaotic world in transition.
  • Obtain strategies for emotional and spiritual preparation that can be shared with others and used infinitely.
  • Provide a unique opportunity to be validated by other students and the instructor regarding perceptions and preparations with respect to the rapid unraveling of civilization.
  • Have access to individual consultations with the instructor.

About the book Sacred Demise: Walking the Spiritual Path of Industrial Civilization's Collapse

An emotional and spiritual roadmap for navigating the collapse of industrial civilization

BOULDER, COLORADO — Restoring life on a dying planet requires a larger vision than enhancing the longevity of oneself and one’s loved ones. It compels us to consciously and compassionately re-engage with the earth community by breathing new life and love into every species of animal, plant, and mineral in our world. In her new book, Sacred Demise: Walking the Spiritual Path of Industrial Civilization's Collapse (published by iUniverse), Dr. Carolyn Baker reveals that survival will not be possible unless we surrender to collapse and allow it to remake us so that subsequent generations will not repeat the madness that has resulted in the annihilation of our habitat.

In Sacred Demise: Walking the Spiritual Path of Industrial Civilization's Collapse, Baker reveals that the collapse of industrial civilization is presenting an unprecedented and an often unwanted unveiling of who we are, and offering a new paradigm for living intimately with the earth community. Each of us has the choice to be open to and help construct the new paradigm.

Evidence of economic crises, unemployment, energy depletion, and health crises has prompted many to

"look deeper than immediate, short-term solutions that will return everything to 'normal'."

Says Baker:

"They are beginning to perceive the larger picture — that we are in the middle of a collision of crises — crises that are unprecedented in human history and that there will be no benign “return to normal” but, rather, that the human species is standing on the threshold of momentous demise but also phenomenal opportunities for re-making ourselves and our world. The book prompts opportunities to embark on this contemplative yet functional process."

You may want a good long distance plan, calling cards, or you can use a service such as Skype to call the conference service. If you use Skype, set up and test your account well ahead of time. You need to add credit to your account for the calls. Each call takes approximately $3 to $7 of Skype credit depending on where in the world you are calling from.
